The MoonSprouts Story
My dream to farm took more than a decade to materialize, but along the way I explored career paths in the trades – skills that have translated well to running a small business including maintaining & repairing farm equipment, working with crop layout, and business administration. My mechanical, driving, and accounting abilities compliment my desire to be as close to the earth as possible. In the field – in a greenhouse, in the soil, with plants and animals – I feel greatly connected to humanity and to my ancestry. Farming is a labor of love that gives back more than it takes, leaving us in awe in the process.
Some of my fondest early memories are sharing tomato sandwiches in the heat of Virginia’s summers with my grandparents. Tomato varieties of deep & varied color grown in the backyard of their quarter acre lot. My Cubby’s favorite – Cherokee purple often bigger than his hand. My mom always had a tomato garden. House plants decorated our house. Being outside in the woods was always my favorite place. I’ve found my happiest places among plants, trees, and in the dirt.
Moon Sprouts Microgreens was born out of a desire to grow food during off season when fresh produce is in particularly low quality in store, but we need the nutrition more than ever. After a seasonal internship at CRMPI, the opportunity to collaborate with Harrison Patrick, founder of TWCultivators presented itself, and I couldn’t say no. Weeks of dreaming, trial and error turned into months of food. We haven’t stopped growing since.
